Duration : January 1, 2013 - December 31, 2015
(Extended to December 31, 2016)

Drylands are faced with multiple challenges and opportunities for the farming communities across the Central Asia, South Asia, East and Southern Africa and West Africa regions. IWMI's contribution to the Drylands Program focuses on Land and Water themes. IWMI will focus on Sustainable Intensification in the promising areas of the Drylands. In this theme IWMI focuses on the suite of options for Agricultural Water Management which can be used to sustainable intensify agricultural production within a systems perspective. The research will broadly look at agricultural water management interventions and land and water governance. The research will take into account the different nuances of the research based on the research priorities set by the different regions. This is in the spirit of the Drylands Program where demand driven research is carried out for enhanced chances for impacting on the livelihoods of the farming communities.
