Project Profile

WHO wastewater guideline testing in Tamale and Kumasi, Ghana

Duration : March 1, 2007 - February 28, 2009
(Extended to April 30, 2010)

This project continued from where the CGIAR Challenge Program on Water and Food (CPWF) stopped, with the main goal of testing the implementation of multiple non-treatment measures to reduce consumer-related health risks of wastewater use in irrigated vegetable farming in Ghana. Specifically, the project conducted field implementation and demonstrations of various non-treatment options at farm, market and food-vendor levels, and measured the effectiveness of different combinations of options that will reduce health risks and quantify the risk reduction standard metric of disease units, etc.
